EÜL - Eesti Üliõpilaskondade Liit was founded in 1991, shortly after Estonia gained its independence. EÜL's members are democratic student unions from higher education institutions (currently 20 full-members and 3 candidate-members). EÜL is recognised by the Estonian Ministry of Education and Research as the umbrella organisation of student unions.
