The members of the Council of Europe Advisory Council on Youth (AC) will be elected and appointed during the upcoming European Youth Forum Council of Members (COMEM), taking place between 12-14 April in Brussels.
“Members of the Advisory Council on Youth contribute to the effective mainstreaming of youth policies in the Council of Europe programme of activities by formulating opinions and proposals on general or specific questions concerning youth in the Council of Europe”.
The European Students’ Union (ESU) proudly nominates and supports Robert Napier, Vice-President of ESU as a candidate to the Advisory Council on Youth 2020-2021.
We believe Robert will highly contribute to the AC especially when it comes to the link between formal and non-formal education and methods of inclusion for both of them. We aim to continue pushing for the social dimension of all aspects of education through the Advisory Council. Robert’s knowledge on access to rights and inclusion, which are also part of his portfolio within ESU, will definitely prove to be useful for the Advisory Council.
ESU has been closely collaborating with the Council of Europe over the years; offering study sessions, international activities and implementing work plan projects with the support of the EYF of the Council, among others. As an example of this: during the last year, ESU worked on a project called ‘Social Inclusion through participation and democracy-promoting active citizenship in the European Students Movement‘. Robert was the person in charge of this project, whereby he was instrumental in hosting a Training for Trainers event as well as three separate seminars that catered for more than 60 youths. Furthermore, Robert is already engaged within the structures of the Council of Europe. In fact, he represents ESU on the Steering Committee for Education Policy and Practice and has been appointed as an expert on the ad hoc committee focusing on Higher Education.
“Young people deserve a strong voice in Europe, and I believe that I have just that to offer. In times when financial difficulties are a reality, we need representatives that can help in prioritising the needs for youth, and that are pragmatic and innovative in their approach”, states Robert.
