BM 61: Introduction of master vocational studies into Serbian higher education
ESU supports initiatve of the SUS and Students’ Conference of Academies of Vocational Studies and requires from Serbian government and Ministry of Education and Science to introduce the master vocational studies into Serbian higher education with argumentation that basic human rights to education are threatened. Everyone must have right to assess higher education by enrolling in their prefered higher education system. No individual can be forced by a law to specialise only through academic studies at university.
Social dimension is of an immense importance due to the lower costs at the colleges and most colleges of vocational studies are located in Serbian interior towns thus being more accessible to a larger number of students.
If the master and PhD academic studies are existing, it is necessary to provide at least master vocational studies, which would imply the equal opportunities to all Serbian citizens and which would open up additional opportunities for cooperation with European higher education institutions in the interest of students, staff and higher education stakeholders.
The Introduction of master (and PhD) vocational studies was also supported by Mr Jelko Kacin, the special rapporteur of the European Parliament for Serbia. The support initiated the activities of Students’ Conference of Academies of Professional Studies in Serbia, partners of SUS, to make efficient and timely preparations for forthcoming draft of the new Law on higher education in Serbia.
