A referendum to confer full civil marriage rights to same sex couples in Ireland will be held on May 22nd 2015. USI has been and continues to campaign for this referendum to be carried under the Students for Marriage Equality Campaign #MakeGrátheLaw.

If successful it will mark the first time a sovereign nation has introduced marriage equality by popular vote. Students who identify as LGBT are facing a lot of discrimination within the higher education system, and such legislation contributes to minimising the attacks upon their rights.

In line with ESU’s commitment to equality for all citizens, ESU resolves to support a Yes vote in the upcoming referendum.
