The new academic semester has started, and so has the work of the new elected representatives of the European Students' Union. The summer has been spent on preparations for a new year of the Bologna Process; on new projects aimed at enhancing education quality, student participation as well as other students' rights; and much more. You can read more about some of ESU's current affairs below.

Finnish students host Bologna Information Day
On October 21, the Finnish Union of University Students (SYL) hosts the first of the so-called Bologna Information Days. The event is part of a project where ESU and several of its members work to enhance the student contribution to the Bologna Process (ESCBI).

18th European Student Convention, Stockholm
ESU's upcoming convention "Social Dimension - The Lost Dimension?" will focus on the social dimension of higher education. - During the convention we will do a reality check of the current status of the social dimension at the national and European level, says Alma Joensen, Executive Committee member and coordinator of the Social Affairs Committee of ESU.

Europe-Africa project seeks Stockholm discussion participants
On October 15, the day before the ESC 18 starts, ESU and the European University Association are organising a student focus group discussion. The topic is higher education cooperation between Europe and Africa. Student unions interested in access and equity themes are invited to attend.

Mobility highlighted at Stakeholders' Forum
"We need to improve not only the number of students going abroad, but also the quality of the education", says Erasmus Student Network President Marketa Tokova. She was one of the higher education experts present at the Stakeholders' Forum organised by ESU in September.

EQAR seeks new director

The European Quality Assurance Register (EQAR), created in 2008 as a tool to provide clear and reliable information on Quality Assurance Agencies operating in Europe, is looking for a new director.

In October, ESU and Education International are starting a new project on student-centred learning (SCL). The project aims at finding good practices for SCL, and to provide tools for those who want to make higher education more sensitive to the needs of the learners.
