EU Council adopts education targets in EU 2020 strategy

The Council of the European Union has adopted the so-called EU 2020
strategy for economic growth. After pressure from ESU and other
organisations, the strategy includes a target to increase the share of
30-34 year olds having completed tertiary or equivalent education to at
least 40 per cent.

Student appeal to G8/G20 leaders
| Before
the G8 and G20 summits in Canada, student organisations from both
across the world called on the world leaders to make higher education
accessible to all, as agreed in the United Nations Covenant on Social,
Economic and Cultural Rights. Student organisations representing more
than 150 million students signed a statement to the G8/G20 leaders. You

New ESU representatives
| Six
new representatives will start their first ESU mandate on July 1. The
whole group of elected representatives have met in Cologne to discuss
the next six months and to start planning 2011.
