ESC29 to discuss the social dimension of higher education
|
RIGA -
The Student Union of Latvia (LSA) will host the 29th European Students'
Convention from 20 to 23 March 2015 in Riga. This time the overarching
subject of the conference is "The future of the Social Dimension of

Vacancy: ESU is looking for a Communications' Officer to join its team in Brussels
|
BRUSSELS
- The European Students' Union (ESU) is looking for a team player to
fill the position of Communications Officer at its headquarters in
Brussels, Belgium. The Communications Officer will be responsible for
coordinating and facilitating external and internal communication,
updating ESU's profile and image and contributing to the further

Students disappointed with the European Council's proposal
|
BRUSSELS
- The European Students' Union (ESU) is deeply disappointed with a
proposal from the European Council on the conditions of entry and
residence of third-country nationals for the purposes of research,
studies, pupil exchange, remunerated and unremunerated training,
voluntary service and au pairing. The proposal could significantly limit
free movement within the European Union for students, researchers and

A ministerial conference in Yerevan draws near
|
YEREVAN
- The Ministerial Conference of the European Higher Education Area
(EHEA) will take place in Yerevan, Armenia, on 14 and 15 May this year.
Preparations for the conference are already well underway, as well as
the corresponding Bologna Policy Forum held in parallel with

More consistent approaches to learning outcomes needed
|
BRUSSELS
- Although a systemic approach is lacking within countries to implement
approaches to learning outcomes, there is still significant progress
and dedication to the process. A new proposal emphasises the need for
more consistent definitions and design of learning outcomes, as well as
increased cooperation and communication among stakeholders in the

women's day, held every year on 8 March in honour of women that fought

Chile set to assume public responsibility of higher education
|
SANTIAGO
- More than forty years after Pinochet's military coup in Chile, which
marked the beginning of the end of public education there, the country's
government wants to offer studies in higher education for free as of

Strong education systems build tolerant societies
|
PARIS -
The European Students' Union (ESU) welcomes an initiative to hold a
ministerial conference on 17 March 17 to discuss how education can
support social inclusion in Europe. Tibor Navracsics, the European
Commissioner for Education, Culture, Youth and Sport, presented the idea
on 9 February, following the tragic event at the Charlie Hebdo magazine

Students, a priority in the post-2015 education agenda
|
PARIS -
The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation
(UNESCO) hosted on 19 and 20 February a Regional Ministerial Conference
on Education post-2015. The European Students' Union (ESU) attended the
meeting and advocated the idea of specific inclusion of pupils and
students as stakeholders. This was well received, as highlighted in
suggestions to paragraph 19 of the post-2015 development agenda of the

ESU stands in solidarity with Albanian students
|
TIRANA -
The Albanian government has, in a backwards move, presented a new Law
for Higher Education. The proposal abandons all healthy principles for
student representation, democracy and accessible education. The European
Students' Union (ESU) wholeheartedly supports the efforts of Albanian
students to amend the draft law and condemns the government's attempts

CoSMiCE publication presented with a new students' union directory
|
VIENNA -
The Student Council for Higher Education in the Slovak Republic (SRVS)
and the Austrian Students' Union (ÖH) have published the outcomes of a
project called "Challenges of Student Mobility in a Cosmopolitan Europe

The PL4SD database represents a great opportunity to contribute to
shared peer learning on best practices developed within the area of the

Youth leadership discussed in Israel
|
TEL
AVIV - A conference was held in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv from 25 to 31
January, where participants from a number of students and members of the
European Students' Union (ESU) gathered to discuss youth leadership, as
well as the work being done in preparation for the Ministerial
Conference of the European Higher Education Area to be held in Yerevan

ESU promotes more youth involvement in UNESCO's work
|
PARIS -
The European Students' Union (ESU) submitted a draft to the United
Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) in
which it urges the new liaison committee for non-governmental
organisations to recognise the lack of youth involvement in the

LUMPUR - The GAPS (Global Access to Post-Secondary Education) initiative
aims to bring together those from across sectors and countries to meet
this global challenge via advocacy and action. The conference will be
held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, from 5 to 8 October 2015 in association
