ESU welcomes the new Skills Agenda but warns it can become a double edge sword
The new Skills Agenda for Europe could become a double edge sword if it is not aligned with other Commission initiatives such as the Paris Declaration. Clear targets need to be set  on those relevant skills for active citizenship and living together in our modern societies. Our education and training systems should reflect the model of society that we want for Europe: one where critical minds participate actively in their diverse and inclusive communities.

The application process to attend OpenCon 2016 is now open
OpenCon 2016 will take place on November 12-14 in Washington, DC. and seeks to bring together effective, engaged students and early career academic professionals from around the world to advance Open Access, Open Education, and Open Data-regardless of their ability to pay for travel costs. The conference is hosted by SPARC and the Right to Research Coalition.

Project News
EQUIP project moves to its second phase of activities
On 6-7 June, the EQUIP project organised its final training workshop on the ESG 2015, after two other workshops and two webinars. Over the past six months, under the framework of EQUIP project, five events brought together representatives from higher education institutions and Quality Assurance agencies, as well as students and voices from the labour market to discuss and share good practices on topics such as internal and external quality assurance, student-centred learning and the review and monitoring of programmes.

National Union of Students UK. Glasgow Student Saved from Deportation
NUS Scotland welcomed some positive news in the ongoing campaign to save Glasgow student Lord Elias Mensah Apetsi from deportation. The Home Office has withdrawn the decision to refuse Lord's human rights claim, and the refusal to revoke his deportation order, they will be reconsidering his case. Before the Home Office's deportation order, which was made without all the facts being presented and considered - Lord, a Master's Student at Strathclyde University, Glasgow, had just been voted 'Student of the Year'. During his ordeal he was caring for two young children, his son and stepson.

Long meetings and great successes - European Students' Union's Board Meeting 70
Siiri Nousiainen, Alviina Alametsä and Cecilia Pellosniemi participated as representatives of SYL in the board meeting (BM) and the BM seminar Global Student Voice of the European Students' Union (ESU) on 9 to 14 May in Bergen, Norway. As members of ESU, national students' unions from all around Europe gather twice a year to decide on, for instance, our common policies on EU advocacy and electing the members of ESU's Executive Committee (EC).
